This week was outside our normal happenings. Last Sunday, James was supposed to travel to Norfolk for a week long class he was on orders to attend. When he got to the airport, something had gone wrong, and he did not have a plane ticket. Luckily Norfolk is within driving distance of here. A long drive, but still doable. With the help of three very good friends, we dropped our kids off, and headed out at about 9:00 pm. I drove him, because he falls asleep at the wheel. I get very tired, but I have never fallen asleep. We got to Norfolk at about 1 am, then spent another hour trying to find where he was supposed to stay. Someone did not think to send him the name of the place he was staying, and he assumed there was just one. Not so, there were several places to stay. We finally found it, and slept for a few hours. He went off to class Monday morning, and I headed to the airport to pick up his luggage, which has gone on the plane without him before it was figured out that he was not actually going to fly. Crazy. Then I headed back home.
Then commenced a very busy and crazy week, with school meetings, lessons, activities, all the normal things that I had to handle on my own. Not fun. You would think that since somebody messed up his travel arrangements, all would be fixed and James could fly home. Not so. I actually had to go pick him up. With traffic, I was in the car for a little over 10 hours on Friday. It is really making me rethink my idea of a road trip to visit BYU Idaho and BYU Provo. I am not sure I am up for that.
Anyway, we made it home just in time for me to get sick. Amanda shared with me a nasty little bug that has me coughing nonstop. I am really glad no one has school or work tomorrow, because I need a day to just stay in bed and get better.
There is my very whiny post, now I am going to take some medicine and go to bed. Well, after I take care of .... Isn't that how it is for the mom.

High School Orientation for Parents
Note to self for next year:
It is okay to not go to the high school orientation for parents. There will be nothing new from the other four times you have gone, so it is okay to stay home.
I sometimes wonder about myself. If I am being completely honest I baffle myself frequently. Why do I feel guilty when I am not at every parent meeting the school has that involves my children? I am in the middle of a crazy week, and tonight was this parent orientation for high school. I told myself I did not need to go. Then I felt guilty, and said to myself, what kind of parent are you that you do not go to this parent meeting. So I went. I listened to the principal talk for about five minutes, because I find her highly entertaining and refreshing from other administrators that I have listened to. After her, I tuned out. In fact I actually read a book for the rest of the hour long meeting. Why did I go to that meeting? Totally unnecessary. I was not alone in this opinion of myself. The ninth grade administrator came right up to me and asked me why I had come. To which I had no answer. Kind of embarrassing.
So, I am writing this to remind myself for next year when Nic is ready to go into high school that I actually do not need to go.

New Pictures
We had pictures taken a few weeks ago, and you see some of the results on the blog. I am not crazy about the picture of the kids all together, but I love the ones of the kids paired off.
The best part, is the poses the photographer put them in. He would ask them what they liked, or their personality, then pose them. He did a pretty good job with it. Nic & Nate are posed as the cool gamers. Kerrie & Kelsie as the sweethearts, and Amanda and Ashley as quiet intellects. We laughed so hard while he was doing this. Well, everyone except Ashley. He kind of got on her bad side from the beginning by calling her the tall sister. She was annoyed from then on. I have not seen so many eye rolls out of her in years.
It was a pretty funny experience and we now have these pictures, which I will love.

James - Three, Jann - Zero
There is a little competition going on at my house. By the blog title you would think that James is winning. When in fact he is actually losing big. Let me explain. First of all, this is not a competition that James has willingly joined in on. In fact, he wants nothing to do with it.
There is only one rule: Don't get a ticket
Here is how the scoring works: For every ticket you get, you get one point.
The lowest score wins.
Here is the record of our competition:
James:
*1992 - 1 point for getting a ticket by running a red light on his bike.
*1999 - 1 point for getting a ticket by failing to have a license plate on the front of his vehicle.
*2011 - 1 point for getting a ticket by failing to come to a complete stop right in front of a police car.
Jann:
NOTHING!
Conclusion: Although James has come about his points in pretty creative ways, Jann has managed to avoid them all together. Therefore, Jann is the better driver.
